El Sánscrito en Star Wars

Primero, conozcamos un poco qué es el sánscrito:

El sánscrito (संस्कृतम् saṃskṛtam) es un idioma de la familia indoeuropea. Es un lenguaje clásico de la India y un lenguaje litúrgico del hinduismo, el budismo y el jainismo. Es uno de los 22 idiomas oficiales de India. Su posición en la cultura de la India y del sudeste asiático es similar a la del latín y el griego en Europa.

Literalmente quiere decir ‘perfectamente hecho’: sam: ‘completamente’; kritá: ‘hecho, obra’ (de la raíz kri está emparentado con la palabra karma: ‘acción’, y con el latín crīmen ‘hecho discernible’). Se escribe en el silabario devanagarí.

El sánscrito es utilizado principalmente como lenguaje ceremonial en los rituales hindúes, en la forma de himnos y mantras.

En Star Wars hay varias piezas de la banda sonora que incluyen susurros de palabras en sánscrito y coros tan conocidos como los de "Duel of the Fates". Además está la pieza del Funeral de Qui-Gon, la cual incluye también coros en sánscrito.

Acá podemos leer la letra de como suenan ambos coros de esas dos piezas en sánscrito.

El sánscrito no puede ser leído o interpretado textualmente palabra por palabra, utiliza palabras que simbolizan conceptos.



Algunos otros datos sobre el sánscrito en Star Wars:

-Por ejemplo *Gungan*, es claramente derivada de la palabra *Ganga* el cual es uno de los siete ríos sagrados de la India, y tiene mucho sentido con el ambiente natural que se les da a los Gungans.

-*Shmi*, una versión reducida de *Lakshmi*, reconocida por tener una energía maternal considerable. Todos sabemos la energía maternal que estuvo en Shmi para que naciera Anakin.

-*Shaak Ti*, la palabra *shakti* significa energía o potencia, gran cualidad de esta Jedi.

-*Rey Varuna*, el que precedió a Padmé Amidala, *Veruna* era un semidios de los océanos, ambientes reconocidos por completo en Naboo.

-*Yoda*, con Yoda la versión mas conocida es la que señaló muy bien Iulan, sin embargo hay otro par de significados que he visto interesantes, la palabra japonesa *Yodan* que significa conclusión, la relaciono con el hecho de que Yoda fue el último Jedi en *irse* de la vieja Orden, con el que *concluyó* esa Orden, e inició la nueva con Luke. Además está la palabra hebrea *Yodeah* la cual significa *sabe/conoce*, no necesidad de explicar allí. Claro está la mas reconocida es la versión que viene del Punjabi que significa *guerrero* ya que allí la palabra es exacta *yoda*.

Otro dato interesante con el sánscrito, es por ejemplo con la palabra *padawan*, *pada* significa *pie*, y *wan* significa *bosque*, esto es entendido como *un paso en el bosque*, curiosamente cuando Luke va a empezar su camino en la Fuerza como un Padawan *informal*, Obi-Wan le dice: *You-ve taken your first step into a larger world*

Sanscrito en Duel of Fates

Durante una entrevista comento:



<<"... We have the chorus singing with the orchestra in 'Duel of
the Fates' and then also in Revenge of the Sith.... what you're hearing
are Sanskrit words that are translations of an English translation of
an old Celtic poem. And the poem is a famous poem to people who know
about Celtic antiquity; it's called The Battle of the Trees. The
English translation that I'm referring to was delivered to us by Robert
Graves, who was a famous poet. And in thinking about what to write for
that sequence - we didn't have a text and I always loved The Battle of
the Trees - and I found a couple lines in there and the lines are - and
I'm quoting exactly correctly there:


Under the tongue root a fight most dread

While another rages behind in the head.



And this is the Sanskrit translation.



... again, it's Sanskrit and it's a translation of a very simple line, which is just:



Grievous are the crimes of the Empire

TRADUZCO (conste, es duro la traduccion en inglés, y de poemas... ni hablar):

lo que escuchan son palabras en sanscrito, que son traducciones,
de una traduccion inglésa de un viejo poema celta... se llama "la
batalla de los arboles".la traduccion inglesa de la cual me refiero fue
entregada a nosotros por Robert Graves, que era un famoso poeta. y al
estar pensando, en que escribir para esa secuencia - no teniamos texto
y a mi siempre me gusto "la batalla de los arboles" - y encontre un par
de lineas ahi y las lineas son - y lo estoy repitiendo exactamente:



bajo la raiz de la lengua una pelea debe temerse

mientras otra hace furor detras en la cabeza



o



bajo la raiz lengua una pelea bien temible

mientras otra hace furor detras en la cabeza



y esta es la traduccion en sanscrito.



... de nuevo (habla de revenge of the sith), es sanscrito y es la traduccion de una linea muy simple, que es:



Grievous (grave, lamentable, doloroso, atroz) son los crimenes del imperio

Williams tomó únicamente 2 líneas de ese poema, adjunto el poema completo. Sin embargo la profundidad de esas dos líneas está muy representada en Star Wars, ya que la idea central es la de una batalla que se presenta en dos frentes o niveles, físico y mental o de diversos tipos. En Star Wars "Duel of the Fates" se presenta siempre que existe una dualidad de enfrentamientos, el Jedi defensor de la república contra el Sith creador del Imperio por ejemplo. También se presenta con personajes como Padmé, lo cual indica que el motivo representa una situación mas que a un personaje.
